PayAfterTax is an independent Australian website with free calculators for pay, tax and workplace entitlements. It answers everyday questions quickly: how much of a pay rise you'll actually keep, when your HECS-HELP debt will be paid off, or what you're owed if your job is made redundant.
Who's behind it
PayAfterTax is built and maintained by Winston, a professional software engineer in Australia. I started it because most pay calculators either bury the answer under settings or quietly fall behind when the rules change.
I'm not a tax agent or accountant. Instead, every calculator is built directly from the rules the ATO and the Fair Work Ombudsman publish, and tested against worked examples before it goes live. When rates change on 1 July, the site is updated and each page shows the date it was last checked.
What we focus on
- The answer first. Every calculator shows a result as soon as the page opens, and the most common settings are already filled in.
- Current rules. Figures use the rates published by the Australian Taxation Office and the Fair Work Ombudsman for 2026–27, and each page says when it was last updated.
- Plain English. We explain what each number means and what it assumes, so you can tell whether it applies to you.
Independence
PayAfterTax is not part of the Australian Taxation Office, the Fair Work Ombudsman or any government agency, bank or employer. The site is free to use and is supported by advertising.
Not advice
Our calculators give general estimates based on the information you enter. They don't take your full circumstances into account and aren't financial, tax or legal advice. For decisions that matter, check with the ATO, the Fair Work Ombudsman, a registered tax agent or a financial adviser.
